Welcome to the website of Welsh jazz trombonist Gareth Roberts, leader of the award winning "Gareth Roberts Quintet."

Last year (2013) Gareth was honoured to be granted the Jazz4Jed bursary and as a result of this he has spent much of the last year writing some new big band arrangements. Live versions of some of these in addition to some full tracks from his quintet are available to hear on his Soundcloud page.

In addition to all his other work this year Gareth also collarorated with Welsh artist Rhys Bevan Jones on an exhibit which was part of the "How the light gets in" exhibition in Cardiff Bay.

The Gareth Roberts Quintet have released two critically acclaimed albums to date Go Stop Go and The Attack of the Killer Penguins. Plans are in place for a third at some point in the not too distant future.

Please be sure to check out the albums page where you can listen to excerpts from both albums and read what the critics had to say about them in the reviews section.

Both albums are available to buy now from this site - see albums. It is also possible to buy both Gareth Roberts Quintet albums from many popular download sites including itunes and amazon.

As well as running his own band Gareth also plays in numerous other bands, teaches jazz trombone at the Royal Welsh College Of Music and Drama and works as musical director of Monmouth Big Band.

In the last year he has also started a new project consisting of just himself, a trombone, a euphonium and a loop station called "Gareth and the Machine". Three successful gigs so far and hopefully more to follow. Watch this space!

"I can only be thankful that young players like these ones still exist, people capable of writing music that's at one and the same time respectful of the tradition, accessible and gifted with virtuosity"
- Massimo Ricci - www.touchingextremes.org

"Nimble and inventive he seems to bring out the best in the instrument, from gutbucket slides and rasps on the up tempo material to a surprising tenderness on ballads.”
- Ian Mann - www.thejazzmann.com
